This week I began experimenting with materials for my sculpture project and also picked a mostly final design. To experiment, I created a tentacle like form out of newspaper and wrapped it in mesh wire, and then coated it a plaster like material. This is the material I'm planning on using for the most of the exterior of the sculpture, as well as a large past of the base. It's not exactly the concrete look I originally had in mind, but it works similarly and is much easier to use. I also began making the armature for the real project at the end of this week. Considering its scale, I know its going to be difficult to prop up while the plaster is drying, but I think I will be able to make some kind of makeshift support system to hold it up when it is drying.

I think you are off to a great start! Maybe concrete can still play a role?
