She's done!!! She's FINALY done! This project was probably the longest project that I've ever kept up with, and I'm honestly very surprised I didn't get bored with it before finishing. It weighs a lot and taking it home was kind of a nightmare (it cracked) but I'm glad about how it turned out, and I love how sleek it looks against the black backdrop. I wish I had just gone for the thick matted dirt look I had imagined in the beginning, because the dirt looks a lot cooler up close than from far away, but I think that's just something that if I had more time to experiment with, I would have been more satisfied. All in all, I really enjoyed the unconventional material I used and just the general process of sculpting; it makes me feel like I'm really using my hands to their full extent.

In this last quarter we studied oil painting, which was really cool since I had never really been taught how the process worked. When "oil painting" came to mind, I used to think of paint used for its ability to be thick and chunky. Now I realize that its so much more than that, and have learned how brunaille and grisaille add to the depth of paintings. To be honest I didn't love oil painting, but I think with more time to get used to how the turpentine made the paints so liquid-y, my underpaintings would have been more successful and less drippy, making me more excited about the whole precess. I don't know if I'll be continuing with oil painting any time soon in the future, but i definitely have a newfound appreciation for it. |
