I've really enjoyed working on AbEx painting these past few weeks. Even though we spent quite a bit of time on this unit, including learning about the movement, the artists, and experimenting on smaller canvases, I was still surprised by how the time flew by while working on this piece. I gotta be honest, I really don't love it much. I like the rhythm of my piece, but wish the color scheme was more sophisticated. If I could, I would honestly just keep going with the same technique on top of the "finished" piece I have right now, but with different colors. That was another thing I realized with this piece; there's actually SO much planning you have to do when you want a lot of layers and have a limited amount of time, especially since the medium I was using took so long to dry, which is funny because it often seemed to me before that abstract painting take less planning. While i don't like the final piece, I am appreciative that I got to explore texture in a way I never have before, and I'm excited to try adding it in other places, like in mixed media pieces.

Nice post! I like that you said, "I like the rhythm of my piece, but wish the color scheme was more sophisticated." It shows that you are really thinking about what makes a painting "good" or "finished" or "successful." Keep painting and making those changes - it's the only way to figure it all out! Please add one final image to show the complete painting - otherwise, we have to look through the slide show to see it.

This post looks great! I love the slideshow...it's so fun to see how the piece progressed. It is clear you are honest in your reflection which is very important. Maybe add some more about what you were actually thinking throughout. Maybe also add some more close up images, focusing on more specific details-like you did for the practice painting. Overall, great work!

I see you made some changes - good work! Remember what I've said about those photos, though... it only takes second to crop a photo that is used to depict your "final" work. The more background you remove, the better the viewer is able to see the work - without distractions. I do agree with Ada's point point about adding a detail shot or 2 two re: the final piece - perhaps highlight and area that you feel is most successful and contrast it with the opposite.
